The Jefferson Weaning Protocol
(Protocol Trainer)

This is a prototype system for teaching the weaning protocol at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA, employing a full-scale cardiopulmonary physiology simulator and 3-D graphics.

Users control ICU devices through simulated interfaces and simultaneously view the effects on a virtual patient. The physiological modeling aspects of this presentation are complicated to develop, but the results are powerful and rewarding.

Early reviews testify to the excitement about this product: "it was very exciting for learning opportunities at my pace," and "it makes it fun learning."

Managers and educators are excited because this gives them an unprecedented tool for monitoring adherence to protocols, improving documentation of performance, and making the training experience more enjoyable for their staff.
